“Green Persia” is 8-day tour of the north and west of Iran that includes the provinces of Ardabil, Zanjan, Qazvin, West & East Azerbaijan. Iran Safar offers you this itinerary for a 7-day trip to the north and west of Iran. It can be a good choice for second-time visitors or can be an extension to Iran Classic Tour, Blue Domes and Persian Breeze programs.
Every year, millions of domestic and foreign tourists visit the tourist attractions of Iran. Most of these trips take place on routine and classic routes. But since the west and north of Iran have many spectacular sights, scenic villages and picturesque landscape, we introduce the Green Persia travel plan to you as a 7-day tour in Iran.
Historical and cultural sights, pleasant climate, various natural landscapes, rich cultures, delicious cuisine and such things are all reasons to choose certain cities and routes for our trip in Iran. In case you are interested in pristine mountains and green areas along with fantastic world heritage sites, we suggest the north and northwestern Iran each part of which has a different feeling and atmosphere!
The “Green Persia” traces magnificent world heritage sites in Ardabil, Julfa and Takab which would carve a long lasting image in the memory of every visitors. Upon arrival, your local guide will be waiting for you at the airport and you will drive you to the city.
Today, we explore the beautiful capital city of Tehran, starting with a visit to the National Museum of Iran. This museum houses an extraordinary collection of artifacts spanning from 5,000 BC to the advent of Islam in Iran, offering a fascinating overview of the country’s rich history and cultural heritage.
Next, we walk to the Golestan Palace Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most splendid examples of Qajar-era architecture. The complex features beautifully adorned palaces set around elegant gardens, decorated with intricate mirrors, paintings, and glazed tiles, showcasing the artistic achievements of the Qajar dynasty.
Our day concludes with a visit to the Tehran Grand Bazaar, a bustling marketplace where you can experience the energy of the city, browse traditional goods, and purchase souvenirs.
End the evening with a walk across the Tabiat Bridge, a modern architectural marvel that provides panoramic views of Tehran.
After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive north toward the Caspian Sea, arriving in the charming city of Anzali. Known for its picturesque lagoon and lush greenery, Anzali offers a serene escape from the hustle of city life. Stroll along the famous Anzali Lagoon, observing the abundant birdlife and enjoying the peaceful waterside atmosphere. You can also explore the local markets and enjoy fresh seafood in one of the city’s restaurants. The evening is free to relax and soak in the tranquil ambiance of this coastal city before spending the night in Anzali.
Today, drive to Sarein, stopping in Ardabil, a city renowned for its historical sites and natural beauty. In Ardabil, you may visit the impressive Sheikh Safi al-Din Ensemble, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and wander through the city’s charming bazaars. Continue to Sarein, a town famous for its natural hot springs and therapeutic thermal baths. Upon arrival, you can enjoy the healing waters, a perfect way to unwind after a day of travel. The evening is spent in the serene environment of Sarein, surrounded by beautiful mountains and natural landscapes.
After breakfast, journey west to Tabriz, one of Iran’s historic and cultural centers. Begin your exploration at the Tabriz Historic Bazaar Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where centuries-old architecture and a labyrinth of alleys showcase traditional commerce and craftsmanship. Visit the Blue Mosque, famous for its stunning blue tilework and intricate calligraphy. Stroll through the Shah Goli Park, a beautifully landscaped garden centered around a large pool, offering a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city. In the evening, enjoy local cuisine and spend the night in Tabriz.
Today, take a full-day excursion to Julfa, a region near the Azerbaijan border known for its Armenian heritage and scenic landscapes. Visit the Saint estepanus Armenian Monasteries , historical sites that reflect the unique blend of Persian and Armenian culture in the region. Explore the charming riverside villages and enjoy the breathtaking natural surroundings. Return to Tabriz in the evening for dinner and overnight stay, reflecting on a day filled with history and picturesque vistas.
The drive from Tabriz to Kandovan is a scenic journey of about 60 kilometers, taking roughly 1.5 hours. As you leave the bustling city of Tabriz behind, the landscape gradually transforms into rolling hills and rugged mountains, dotted with small villages and farmland. The road winds through lush valleys and offers glimpses of the dramatic rock formations that Kandovan is famous for. Arriving in the village, you are greeted by the unique troglodyte homes carved into volcanic cliffs, creating a truly unforgettable and picturesque setting.
Afterwards, depart for Takab, a region famed for its ancient archaeological treasures. The highlight of the day is a visit to Takht-e Soleyman, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was once a Zoroastrian sanctuary and later a Sassanid royal complex. Explore the ruins, including the fire temple, palace structures, and the volcanic lake, all set within a striking mountainous landscape. Overnight in Takab allows you to enjoy the serene surroundings and the mystical aura of this historic site.
Today, travel south to Zanjan, a city known for its traditional crafts and beautiful architecture. Visit the Soltaniyeh Dome, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest brick domes in the world, showcasing the pinnacle of Ilkhanid architecture. Explore the local bazaars, famous for handwoven carpets, knives, and traditional silverwork. Spend the evening enjoying the city’s local cuisine and cultural ambiance, staying overnight in Zanjan.
On your final day, drive back to Qazvin, a city with a rich historical background and stunning examples of traditional Persian architecture. Begin your visit at the Shahzde Hossein Shrine, a peaceful and spiritual site that highlights Qazvin’s architectural charm. Afterward, head to the Jameh Mosque of Qazvin, one of the oldest mosques in Iran, which showcases intricate tile work and historic significance.
Next, take a stroll through the bustling Sa'do Saltaneh Bazaar, where you can experience the vibrant local culture and shop for traditional handicrafts. For a final taste of Qazvin's grandeur, visit the Chehel Sotoun Palace, a splendid example of Persian royal architecture, offering serene gardens and beautiful frescoes.
After soaking in the sights of this ancient city, continue your drive to Tehran.
