“Tribal Routes” is a 13-day Iran tour that covers some of the most important sights of Iran and major attractions of almost all main cities of Iran such as Tehran, Shiraz, Yazd, and Isfahan along with Iranian nomad tribes and villages. There are many people who, when traveling, want to get familiar with the country’s old traditions, customs, and to see their daily life.
During this trip we will visit the country’s most important attractions that has no equal in the Islamic world. The brightest star of all is, of course, Isfahan; a name that recalls the majestic architectural and intellectual achievements of Persian Culture, together with Shiraz, Yazd, and capital city of Tehran. After visiting each major city we take a refuge to the nature to take opportunity to visit Bakhtiari and Khamseh nomad tribes and some remote villages.
Upon arrival in Tehran, your local guide will greet you at the airport and accompany you to your hotel. Today, we begin exploring the Iranian capital with visits to the Golestan Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that showcases the elegance of Qajar-era architecture, and the National Museum of Iran, home to fascinating artifacts spanning millennia of Persian history. If time allows, we stroll through the bustling Grand Bazaar, a vibrant hub of traditional commerce and culture.
In the morning, we take a short flight to Shiraz, the city of poets, gardens, and Persian culture. Our sightseeing includes the Nasir al-Mulk Mosque (the “Pink Mosque”), famous for its colorful stained-glass windows, the Narenjestan Garden, and the Vakil Bazaar, a lively place to shop for local crafts. We also visit the Tomb of Hafez, the beloved Persian poet whose verses are deeply woven into Iranian life.
Today we leave Shiraz and drive toward Bavanat, stopping en route at two of Iran’s greatest archaeological treasures: Persepolis, the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire, and Pasargadae, the ancient city founded by Cyrus the Great. Continuing toward Bavanat, we encounter nomadic settlements, where you’ll have the chance to meet local tribes and learn about their seasonal migrations and centuries-old traditions.
After breakfast, we set off for a day of light trekking through the Bavanat Valley, surrounded by oak forests, mountains, and fertile plains. Along the way, we visit Qashqai or Khamseh nomad families and enjoy a traditional lunch in a nomad tent, experiencing their warm hospitality and simple way of life. Overnight stay in Bavanat.
This morning, we travel across desert landscapes to reach the Zein-ol-Din Caravanserai, a beautifully restored 17th-century inn that once served Silk Road travelers. Spend the evening relaxing in the tranquil desert setting, enjoying traditional Persian meals under a star-filled sky.
After breakfast, we drive to Yazd, one of Iran’s oldest cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our tour includes the Amir Chakhmaq Complex, the Jameh Mosque of Yazd, and the Zoroastrian Fire Temple, where a sacred flame has been burning for over a thousand years. Explore the mud-brick alleys and windcatcher architecture that define this desert city.
We leave Yazd behind and drive through scenic landscapes to reach Isfahan, a city known for its magnificent Islamic architecture and lively atmosphere. Upon arrival, we check into our hotel and enjoy an evening stroll along the Si-o-se Pol Bridge, beautifully illuminated at night.
Today we explore the architectural gems of Isfahan, starting at the breathtaking Naqsh-e Jahan Square, surrounded by the Imam Mosque, Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, and Ali Qapu Palace. We also wander through the Grand Bazaar, where artisans create traditional crafts such as miniature paintings and hand-painted tiles.
We continue exploring Isfahan with visits to the Chehel Sotoun Palace, famous for its frescoes and reflecting pool, and the Armenian Quarter of Jolfa, where the Vank Cathedral displays impressive Christian art and manuscripts. The afternoon is free to relax or enjoy more of the city’s markets and tea houses.
After breakfast, we drive toward Chelgerd, located in the heart of the Zagros Mountains. Upon arrival, we meet members of the Bakhtiari nomad tribe, known for their traditional lifestyle, animal herding, and distinctive black tents. Spend the night in a nomad tent, enjoying a memorable evening of storytelling and local cuisine under the stars.
Today we enjoy a day of trekking through the Zagros highlands, surrounded by pristine mountain scenery, streams, and pastures where nomads graze their herds. Experience the serenity of rural Iran and perhaps share tea with a local family.
After breakfast, we begin our return journey to Tehran, passing through picturesque mountain roads and rural villages.
